Chikungunya fever is a tropical infectious disease caused by the Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) that is associated with fever and joint pain. It is transmitted similarly to malaria by biting mosquitoes. The disease is particularly prevalent in eastern and southern Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. For some years now, the disease has also been spreading to the islands in the Indian Ocean, in the Caribbean, in Central America close to the Caribbean coast and in the north of South America. The word Chikungunya means the bent walking. In German the disease is also called “Gebeugter Mann”. The exact diagnosis can only be made by blood tests.

Conventional medicine says: A specific treatment option or vaccination does not currently exist.
